What an electric car doesn't need
- Engine oil and oil filter changes
- Spark plugs and fuel filters
- Clutch and gearbox oil servicing
- Timing belt, exhaust system and starter motor
What it still needs
- Tyres. Electric cars are heavy and quick off the line, so tyres matter. Rotate and align them as advised.
- Brakes. Regenerative braking takes much of the load, so pads often last longer, but brake fluid and the system still need checking.
- Coolant. The battery and motor have their own cooling system.
- Cabin air filter, wipers and suspension. The same as any car.
- The 12-volt battery. It runs the lights and electronics, and eventually wears out.

How to estimate your costs
Ask any dealer for the service schedule and the price of each service for the car you are considering, not just the first free one. Then add tyres, insurance and charging. For charging costs, see our home charging guide.
Our workshop is in Sector 35, Faridabad. See how to book a service.
Frequently asked questions
Is an electric car cheaper to maintain?
Usually, yes. There is no engine oil, spark plug or clutch servicing, and regenerative braking reduces brake wear. You still pay for tyres, brake fluid, coolant, filters and insurance.
