What does a charge cost?

The VF 6 has a 59.6 kWh battery. At a home electricity price of ₹8 a unit, filling it from empty costs about ₹477, for an ARAI range of up to 468 km. That is roughly ₹1.2 to ₹1.4 a kilometre, against about ₹8 a kilometre for a petrol car doing 12 km/l at ₹95 a litre. Your own tariff will change the figure, so check your electricity bill.

How long does it take?

On a 7.2 kW AC charger, the VF 6 takes about 8 to 9 hours to charge from empty to full, which is an overnight charge. Most owners top up a little every night and rarely charge from empty. At a public DC fast charger, the battery goes from 10% to 70% in about 25 to 30 minutes.

Charging in an apartment or housing society

  1. Find your parking spot. A reserved spot with access to power makes this easy.
  2. Ask your RWA or society. Many societies now allow chargers; ask what they need, such as a request letter or a separate meter.
  3. Get an electrician's assessment. They check your wiring, load and the route from the meter to the spot.
  4. Ask your electricity provider about a separate EV connection or tariff.
  5. Install a proper wall charger, not an extension cord.

If a charger at your spot is not possible, charge at work, at a public station, or at a nearby fast charger. VinFast owners charge free at V-Green stations until 31 March 2029. Be honest with yourself about this before you buy: if you have no way to charge regularly, an electric car will frustrate you.
