Why Delhi suits an electric car
Most Delhi drivers cover 30 to 60 km a day, in traffic. That is where an electric car is cheapest to run, because it uses very little energy at low speeds and none when it is stopped. The Delhi government also makes the purchase cheaper than almost anywhere else in India.
Under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh pay no road tax and no registration fee until 31 March 2030. Buyers who scrap an old vehicle can also claim a ₹1 lakh incentive, subject to eligibility. Read the full breakdown of the policy.

What an electric car costs to run
Take a driver who covers 40 km a day. A petrol car doing 12 km/l at ₹95 a litre costs about ₹1,16,000 a year in fuel. Charging an electric car at home at ₹8 a unit costs about ₹18,000 a year. That is a saving of roughly ₹98,000 a year, or about ₹4,88,000 over five years.
Assumptions: petrol ₹95 a litre at 12 km/l; home charging ₹8 a unit at 6.5 km/kWh. Energy cost only. Your numbers will differ, so use the calculator on the ownership page.
How far will it really go?
ARAI range is measured in test conditions. In everyday use, expect less, especially at expressway speeds with the air-conditioning on. For city driving, a range of 400 km or more on paper means charging about once a week for most families. Planning a road trip? Read our long-drive guide.
Where to charge
- At home. Most owners charge overnight from a dedicated charger at their parking spot. A 7.4 kW home charger with installation is not included in the car price; our Delhi on-road quote lists it separately at ₹47,000. More on home charging.
- On the road. VinFast owners charge free at V-Green stations until 31 March 2029. DC fast charging takes the battery from 10% to 70% in about 25 to 30 minutes.
- At work or the mall. Public chargers are growing. VinFast's charging partner V-Green is also building chargers at HPCL fuel stations.
Which one is right for you?
- A first electric car for the city: the VF 6, from ₹18.19 lakh, is compact and easy to park.
- A family of four or five that also does highway trips: the VF 7, with up to 532 km of range and ventilated front seats on every variant.
- A joint family or group trips: the VF MPV 7, with seven seats and its own AC for the third row.
